Where There's Smoke, There's Fire

The images presented here were taken in late July, 1999, when I went to visit my friend David in California. The images on this page are, in my opinion, the cream of the crop, aesthetically speaking. We had fun putting sparklers on Dave's Eagle, but the fun really began with smoke bombs. Adding a smoke bomb to the plane provided a nice smoke trail during the first part of the flight. But aside from that - with or without the smoke - we got some pretty decent images out of the deal.

Here is Dave's Eagle on a take-off run just after lighting the smoke bomb.

As the Eagle takes to the sky and banks across the face of the California sunset, it leaves behind a smoke trail as proof that it was there.
Another pass across the face of the sunset - a little closer this time - provides a clear view of bits of burning material being ejected from the smoke bomb as the smoke trail blends in with the pattern of the sky. No, it wasn't a sparkler!
This image just seems to capture what flying is all about. I'll let it speak for itself for those who can appreciate it.
This image just seemed to summarize my entire visit to California. That's the silhouette of Dave's head as his plane makes a pass across the sky, shortly after take-off, with a sparkler spewing sparks behind it.

Another great day of flying in California comes to a close. And the night flying begins...
